Lincolnâ€™s Emancipation Proclamation
The First Step to Freedom: Abraham Lincolnâ€™s Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. November 9 and 10, 2012 â–ª New York State Museum lobby, Albany. 9:30am until 5pm.
The preliminary Emancipation Proclamation is the only surviving version of the document in Lincolnâ€™s handwriting. This exhibition includes historical background and interpretation of the document as well as a manuscript of a speech written and delivered in New York City in September 1962 by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for the Proclamationâ€™s centennial. The First Step to Freedom marks the sesquicentennial of the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation and has traveled to eight other cities across New York State this fall.

Florian Family Benefit
Thereâ€™s a benefit for the Florian family, which lost their home and belongings in a September fire. The benefit is at the Elks Lodge in Nelliston. Theyâ€™re having a pig roast, Chinese Auction, raffles, and music. Admission is just $15 per couple, or $10 single. Kids 5-10 $5, under 5 free. Donations and auction items are appreciated.
