The outdoor Bread Ovens at Fort Johnson were made possible by the support of the 2nd Albany County Militia.

Old Fort Johnson is the 1749 home of Sir William Johnson, a prominent New York citizen of the colonial period. The limestone home, fortified during the French and Indian War, reflects Johnson’s early beginnings in the Mohawk Valley.

Owned and operated by the Montgomery County Historical Society, a private, non-profit organization, the Old Fort houses period rooms with a number of furnishings from the Johnson family, special long and short term exhibits showcasing Montgomery County artifacts, and a rare 18th century privy.

Old Fort Johnson is located on Route 5 at the intersection of Route 67 in the village of Fort Johnson, one mile west of Amsterdam, and just a short distance from Thruway Exit 27. For additional information, call 843-0300 or visit our website at www.oldfortjohnson.org.
