History of the German Palatines of Mohawk Valley
Kuyahoora Valley Historical Society will host the event at the Norway Recreation Hall, 3114 Military Rd., Norway. Many current residents of the Mohawk and Kuyahoora Valleys have direct ties with the early settlers of the area. Many of those settlers were from the Palatine area of Germany and were brought here by the English government to provide pitch for the British Navy.
Guest speaker Wayne Getman has researched:
- Why they really come to the New World?
- Why did so many die on the way?
- How did they come to settle in the Mohawk Valley?
- What caused them to fight at the Battle of Oriskany?
This is a free program and open to the public. There will also be refreshments following the program.
