23rd Annual CHAIRity Art Auction
Artists, art appreciators, art collectors and all those who enjoy a fabulous event are invited to Sculpture Space's 23rd Annual CHAIRity Art Auction. Held at Sculpture Space's studio at 12 Gates Street, just off Whitesboro Street on the edge of the historic Brewery District in Utica, and chaired by Susan D. Kernan. All profits from the evening support Sculpture Space’s acclaimed international residency program.
This popular event presents inventively altered, embellished or deconstructed chairs and other furniture as well as original artisan-crafted objects, sculptures, drawings, paintings and other artworks. Beginning with a cash bar and preview of auction items from 4:00-6:00pm, complimentary hors d’oeuvres are also presented, generously donated by the area’s leading restaurants and caterers.
The live auction will be conducted -- for the second year in a row -- by auctioneer extraordinaire June DeLair from 6:00-8:00pm. Featuring works by globally-recognized artists such as Christo & Jean Claude (this years Mayor's Award winner) and Grace Knowlton, alumni artists Daniel Buckingham, Katarina Isaksson, Ann Reichlin, Christine Heller and Deborah Dohne also participate. Equally talened local artists, such as Joel Grimaldi (four-time winner of the Mayor’s Award), Suzanne Firsching, the late Ed Christiana, Steven Specht, Eric Reece, Frank Viola, Denise Leone and many more. This year, we are introducing the President’s Award for the highest selling chair: Richard Mulvihill of Hubbell Galvanizing. Also among the auction items will be the "Earth Day Collection," featuring works created entirely from repurposed materials donated by Empire Recycling.
Other festivities include live music, a DJ, surprise entertainment and an imaginative and delight-filled silent auction, offering items and services donated by a rich array of local businesses. A Grand Finale Door Prize drawing marks the end of the night: a weekend in Lake Placid goes to a lucky winner (who must be present to win).
And -- as if that wasn't enough -- Sculpture Space will also be presenting a John von Bergen bronze sculpture from 1986: "Prestinence" as a special fundraiser. One of Sculpture Space's founders, John continues to serve on the Board of Directors; he has a studio in Maine and Clinton and has exhibited around the world. Only 125 tickets are available and all proceeds benefit the programs of Sculpture Space. (Ticket purchasers do not need to be present on September 22 to win.) For additional images and more information on John von Bergen, please visit www.sculpturespace.org.
CHAIRity tickets are $35; Patron and Donor admission is also available at $50 and $100, each with additional benefits. To make reservations in advance please contact 315-724-8381 or via e-mail at: email@example.com. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.ticketderby.com. If you cannot attend CHAIRity but would like to bid, please feel free to contact us. Watch our website and Facebook page for highlights of the night's auction artworks!
